Solana rent calculator: reclaim SOL from token accounts

Every token you ever bought on Solana opened a token account that locks a rent deposit. Once you sell, the empty account still holds that SOL until you close it. Enter how many empty accounts you have and when they were opened to see how much SOL you can reclaim, at the rent rates in force since Solana's September 2026 rent cut.

Closing an account refunds the lamports it holds, so accounts opened before Solana's September 2026 rent cut (SIMD-0437) still return about 0.00204 SOL each. Values checked on mainnet 2026-09-23. Only accounts with a zero balance can be closed. Never sign a closing transaction that also moves tokens or SOL to someone else.

how to use the solana rent and reclaim calculator

  1. Count your empty token accounts: explorers such as Solscan list every token account a wallet owns, including empty ones.
  2. Split them into SPL and Token-2022 accounts if you can; most new pump.fun coins use Token-2022.
  3. Pick when they were opened, or "mixed" for a range.
  4. Enter how many accounts your closing tool bundles per transaction.

formula

rent deposit = (account bytes + 128) × lamports per byte
lamports per byte: 6,960 before 3 Sep 2026 · 6,333 from 3 Sep · 5,080 from 11 Sep 2026
SPL token account: 165 bytes · Token-2022 account: 170 bytes

Solana cut rent in September 2026

SIMD-0437 lowers the rent deposit in steps. The first step went live on mainnet on 3 September 2026 (6,960 → 6,333 lamports per byte) and the second on 11 September 2026 (5,080). A new SPL token account now needs 1,488,440 lamports (0.00148844 SOL) instead of 2,039,280 (0.00203928 SOL). Three further steps, down to 696 lamports per byte, are expected with Agave 4.4 around November 2026 and can be paused.

Most rent-reclaim sites still quote the old 0.00204 SOL figure, which is now only right for accounts opened before September 2026.

why old accounts still return 0.00204 SOL

Closing an account refunds the lamports it actually holds, not the current minimum. An account opened in 2025 holds 0.00203928 SOL and returns all of it. That is why the calculator asks when your accounts were opened.

closing accounts safely

Only accounts with a zero token balance can be closed; sell or burn dust first. Use your wallet's built-in cleanup or a tool you trust, and read what you sign: a legitimate close only returns SOL to your own wallet. Some reclaim services keep a percentage as a fee.

frequently asked questions

How much SOL is in an empty token account?

0.00148844 SOL for an SPL token account opened since 11 September 2026, 0.00151384 SOL for a Token-2022 account, and 0.00203928 SOL for an SPL account opened before 3 September 2026.

How do I reclaim SOL from token accounts?

Close the empty token accounts: each close sends the rent deposit back to your wallet. Wallets and reclaim tools can batch many closes into one transaction, paying the 5,000-lamport base fee once per transaction.

How much SOL can I get back from 100 empty accounts?

About 0.204 SOL if they were opened before September 2026, or about 0.149 SOL if opened since the 11 September rent cut, minus a few thousand lamports of transaction fees.

Will Solana rent go down again?

Solana's reduced-rent plan has three more steps, to 2,575, 1,322 and 696 lamports per byte, expected with Agave 4.4 around November 2026. Each can be put on hold.
